Tinubu Approves N3.9tn for 27 Road Projects Across 15 States

…Clears Ogbomoso-Oko-Ilobu Highway, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Concession

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 27 major road infrastructure projects valued at over N3.9 trillion, covering 15 states across the country in what the Federal Government describes as a major push to improve Nigeria’s transport network and stimulate economic growth.

The approvals, announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, span Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe states. The projects include new road construction, dualisation, rehabilitation, flyovers and strategic highway concessions.

Among the largest approvals is the N1.8 trillion re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to Aliko Dangote. Other major projects include the N276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road, the N265 billion reconstruction of the Iseyin-Eruwa-Agbesi Road linking Oyo and Kwara states, and the N217 billion dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye to Ilorin with a spur to Akinmorin.

The approvals also cover the N110 billion Ogbomoso-Oko-Ilobu Road linking Oyo and Osun states, the N116 billion Abakaliki-Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State, the rehabilitation of the Ilorin-Omorin-Ebe-Kabba-Obajana Road, multiple road projects in Adamawa, Plateau, Benue, Ekiti, Ondo and Yobe states, as well as the construction of several flyovers and strategic link roads. In addition, the Federal Executive Council approved the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and directed the immediate reconstruction of failed sections of the Ibadan axis using concrete pavement.

Providing an update on ongoing federal highway projects, Umahi disclosed that the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed. He added that work on the remaining 164-kilometre section is progressing and is expected to be completed by November.

The latest approvals represent one of the Federal Government’s biggest road infrastructure commitments in recent years, with the projects expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, enhance interstate commerce and support economic activities across the affected states once fully executed.
