Police nab four men with guns, military camouflage, drugs in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects with a truck loaded with military camouflage uniforms and cartons of suspected hard drugs.

The truck was conveying the dangerous goods from Lagos to the South-East region of the country.

Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Commissioner of Police, who was represented during the briefing by senior officers, disclosed the development today at the command headquarters in Ikeja while highlighting major operational successes recorded by the command over the past two weeks.

Operatives of the State Tactical Squad were said to have intercepted the truck on Saturday night after receiving intelligence reports about the movement of suspicious items through the Lekki-Epe corridor.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped and searched, leading to the discovery of several sacks filled with military camouflage uniforms alongside cartons containing different types of suspected illicit drugs.

Addressing journalists, the Commissioner of Police said the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, which prompted officers to swiftly track and intercept the truck before it could leave Lagos State.

“These bags you are seeing here contain military camouflage. We received information and swung into action. The vehicle conveying the sacks was intercepted while moving out of Lagos State, and those carrying them were arrested,” he said.

The police commissioner confirmed that four suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigators, while efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the shipment.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, suggest that the consignment was destined for the eastern part of the country. However, authorities have yet to establish its exact destination and intended purpose. “From the information available to us, the items were being taken somewhere in the East. We are still investigating to unravel those behind it,” the commissioner added.

The Lagos State Police Command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and pledged to ensure that all those involved in the illegal movement of the items are identified and brought to justice.
