Arrest APC Chieftains over Osun teen’s killing, PDP urges Police alleges biased investigation

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Nigeria Police Force to arrest and investigate individuals it claims are linked to the killing of a 14-year-old boy, Ezekiel Olapade, while accusing the Osun State Police Command of allegedly diverting attention from key suspects.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, the party expressed concern over what it described as the selective handling of investigations into the teenager’s death, which occurred on June 21, 2026, around the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu.

The opposition party extended condolences to the family of the deceased and insisted that everyone connected to the incident should be investigated and prosecuted, regardless of  political affiliation.

According to the PDP, the bereaved family and eyewitnesses alleged that the attackers arrived in a campaign vehicle bearing the inscription “Ajisope AMBO,” a political slogan associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party argued that the claim warrants a thorough and impartial investigation.

The PDP further alleged that, hours before the attack, the court-sacked APC “Yes or No” Chairman of Irepodun Local Government reportedly warned Amotekun personnel to vacate their office within the council secretariat, allegedly threatening that any operative who returned would be shot.

It claimed that the Amotekun office was subsequently attacked by suspected political thugs and that the incident had been reported to the Osun State Police Command.

The party also referenced one of the suspects arrested in connection with the killing, identified as Saheed Kareem, popularly known as “Tanfeani,” alleging that he publicly stated while in police custody that he served as an Executive Assistant to the court-sacked APC chairman of Irepodun Local Government.

According to the PDP, the statement raises important investigative questions that should be examined alongside the alleged threats reportedly issued before the attack.

The party, however, expressed concern that there has been no publicly known action by the police to question individuals mentioned in connection with the allegations.

Instead, it alleged that investigators had shifted attention to the PDP Chairman of Irepodun Local Government despite what it described as the absence of publicly known evidence linking him to the incident.

The PDP also condemned the reported invasion of the PDP chairman’s residence on June 29 by police officers, alleging that the operation was carried out without prior invitation and resulted in damage to property.

The party said the development could create the impression that the investigation is being politicised.

Consequently, the PDP called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant institutions to monitor the investigation and ensure it is conducted professionally and without political interference.

Among its demands, the party called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the murder, a probe into the alleged threats against Amotekun personnel before the attack, an investigation into the alleged owners of the campaign vehicle reportedly used by the attackers, an explanation from the Osun State Police Command over the operation at the PDP chairman’s residence, and assurances that law enforcement agencies would remain politically neutral.

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to peace and the rule of law, maintaining that it would continue to support the family of the deceased in seeking justice.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the PDP’s statement.
