2027: Kwara Gov. Boasts of State APC’s Victory

   …says he inherited bad governance in 2019

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed confidence that All Progressives Congress (APC) will resoundingly win in the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the ruling party had grown stronger in Nigeria particularly Kwara State while the opposition had weakened significantly.

Governor AbdulRazaq made the declaration on Monday at the APC Youth Engagement 2026 in Ilorin, where he urged party members, particularly the youth, to begin grassroot mobilisation across wards, zones and polling units ahead of the polls.

AbdulRazaq said his administration inherited a state with failing infrastructure, poor healthcare, a struggling education sector and salary arrears when it assumed office in 2019, but insisted that his government had reversed the decline and laid a solid foundation for sustainable development.

He also threw his weight behind the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and now the APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi (SYD), describing him as a seasoned legislator with the experience required to consolidate the achievements of the current administration.

His words; “SYD is part and parcel of this administration. All the projects you see today were appropriated under his leadership in the State House of Assembly. How can anyone say a Speaker of almost eight years lacks experience?”

He argued that the legislative support provided by Danladi was instrumental to the implementation of the administration’s development programmes across the state.

“Our job has just begun for the next phase. You should return to your wards, zones and polling units to organise yourselves. We are not complacent, but our party is now stronger than ever, while the opposition is weaker than it was in previous elections. We must continue to work hard to secure victory in 2027,” he added.

AbdulRazaq commended the large turnout of young party members, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in his administration and the APC’s governorship candidate.

Reflecting on his first term, the governor said the state’s economy, education, healthcare and infrastructure were in poor condition before his administration took over.

He alleged that the previous administration failed to pay workers’ salaries consistently and presided over the collapse of the education sector.

“Our education sector had collapsed when we came in. Teachers had become farmers, school attendance had dropped, and the system had completely broken down. Today, Kwara is proudly counted among the leading states in Nigeria,” he said.

“There is no real division in Kwara politics. What we have seen is the pursuit of individual interests. We are one family, and our brothers will return home,” he said.

Also speaking, the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said the achievements of the AbdulRazaq administration had positioned the party to retain power beyond 2027.

He outlined the governor’s achievements across key sectors and urged voters to support all APC candidates during the next general elections.

Fagbemi, however, cautioned aggrieved party members against adopting methods that violate the party’s constitution while pursuing their grievances.

“People are entitled to be aggrieved, but the process through which they channel their grievances must follow the party’s laid-down rules,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address titled “One Party, One Mission: Building Unity for Electoral Success,” APC Kwara North Senatorial candidate, Dr. Mahmud Umar Muhammed, urged members to place the party’s collective interest above personal ambition.

“Personal ambition is legitimate in politics, but collective progress must always come first. We must replace grievances with reconciliation, disagreements with dialogue, and competition with cooperation,” he said.
