2026 World Cup Final: Spain Beat Argentina

Spain have emerged the 2026 FIFA World Cup champions, defeating Argentina 1–0 after extra time in a dramatic final at New York/New Jersey Stadium.

The decisive goal came in the 106th minute of extra time, securing Spain’s second FIFA World Cup title after their first triumph in 2010.

Argentina, the defending champions, battled bravely despite playing with 10 men after Enzo Fernández was sent off late in normal time, but they were unable to force a penalty shootout.

Spain’s triumph caps an outstanding tournament and further cements the country’s status as one of world football’s elite nations.

La Furia Roja of Spain left it late on Sunday to beat the La Albiceleste of Argentina to win their second World Cup at the expansive MetLife Stadium in New York New Jersey, the United States.

In a match that was one-sided as the Spanish side, winners in 2010 when the global showpiece was hosted in South Africa, dominated the cup holders and were unlucky to leave it late as Ferran Torres got the only goal of the match in the 106tb minute of the match.

From the start of the match, La Furia Roja dominated the match and made Argentina star man, Lionel Messi, anonymous. The dominance led to several yellow cards earned by the Albeceleste as Enzo Fernandez who plays club football at Chelsea was later shown a red card in the 97th minute.

Argentina’s first shot on target came after Spain took the lead, underlining how the European champions dominated the match. However, the match came alive for the reigning South American champions as they put every foot forward to fine equaliser but Spain showed defensive discipline and resilience to end the match the victors.

By winning the match and the cup, Spain merely won their second World Cup in as many final matches played as their first time of reaching the final in South Africa in 2010 saw them lifting the trophy for the first time.
