Ipetumodu residents bemoan poor power supply

For over three months, the step-down transformer at Obada which supplies power to Okeola, Koso, and parts of the Ipetumodu Central Market has been out of service.

This prolonged blackout has left over a hundred households and local businesses in total darkness, crippling both daily life and the local economy.

In a post shared on his face book page, Prince Adeoye Binuyo said:

“Historically, the burden of maintaining this infrastructure has fallen entirely on the community. Whenever the transformer developed a fault, residents had to task themselves with house-to-house contributions to fund the repairs. It is deeply frustrating that the electricity distribution company (IBEDC) fails to invest in maintaining their own equipment, yet they never miss a cycle when it comes to distributing bills and demanding payments.

“Fed up with the neglect, the youth staged a peaceful demonstration at the IBEDC office in Koso last month. While they were assured of prompt action, those promises have turned out to be empty. Weeks have passed, and the darkness persists.

“Compounding this neglect is the absolute silence from our grassroots leaders. The government both at the state and local levels have done nothing to address this crisis. With elections fast approaching, politicians must remember that the same electorates they are leaving in darkness are the ones they will soon approach for votes. You cannot abandon a community in their time of need and expect their support at the polls.

“We are calling on all concerned authorities to urgently intervene. We appeal to our local government chairman, our state house assembly representative, and our national assembly representatives to come to our aid. It is time to stand up for your constituency. Please help us secure a lasting solution to this transformer issue and restore power to our communities.”
