BREAKING: IGP Disu sacks Police Spokesperson after barely 3 months, names replacement

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu has relieved Police spokesperson, Anthony Placid of his job and appointed Anietie Iniedu as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment was announced in a statement today by the outgoing FPRO, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
Placid, who said the new PRO “is a seasoned police officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability, and administration”.
“A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, he holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication, and intelligence analysis,” the statement read in part.
He takes over from Placid, who was only appointed to that position in March 2026.
Before his appointment, he headed the Complaint Response Unit, CRU, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and promoted transparency and accountability.
He previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, and held other key positions, including Operations Officer in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer in Abia State, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.
The IGP expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, saying his experience would strengthen the Force’s strategic communication and public engagement efforts.
