Appeal Court orders stay of execution of judgment deregistering five political parties

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday berated Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, over his June 15, 22026 judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to deregister five political parties.
The Appeal Court said Justice Lifu exhibited what he described as judicial rascality by going ahead to hear and make the order despite the order of the Court of Appeal and the pendency of the matter before the court.
It therefore ordered a stay of the execution of the said judgment.
Yesterday, Justice Lifu had ordered de-registration of five political parties – the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Action People’s Party, APP, Action Alliance, AA, Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, and Accord Party, AP.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, is the presidential candidate of the ADC while Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke is pursuing his second-term ambition on the platform of Accord Party.
